A customizable hand-held data terminal system employs multiple housing bases able to accommodate different components allow the manufacture of hand- held data terminals with a variety of features based on a single design. Becausethe system according to the present invention does not require the external mounting of components, the ergonomics and basic footprint of the unit remains unaltered. The present system also alleviates problems with moisture resistance,shielding, and survivability under harsh treatment associated with terminals employing externally mounted end cap modules or pod. The present invention employs a plurality of different sized base units which can accommodate a variety of different components and configuration, and wherein the different base units are interchangeable with a singe upper surface and user interface comprising a display screen and keypad.
L'invention est un système utilisant plusieurs supports de boîtier pouvant recevoir différents composants qui permet de fabriquer des terminaux de donnés portatifs ayant plusieurs fonctions en n'utilisant qu'une seule construction. Vu que le système de la présente invention n'utilise pas de composants montés extérieurement, les caractéristiques ergonomiques et l'encombrement de l'unité restent inchangés. Ce système atténue également les problèmes de résistance à l'humidité, de blindage et de survivabilité qui surviennent en cas de manipulation rude avec les terminaux utilisant des modules d'extrémité externes. La présente invention utilise plusieurs supports de tailles différentes qui peuvent recevoir une gamme de composants et de configurations différents; ces supports sont interchangeables et peuvent être utilisés avec une même face supérieure et une même interface utilisateur constituée d'un écran d'affichage et d'un clavier.
