The invention provides a cut-tail edge holding means for a web winding apparatus, wherein a hook blade having a large number of hooks is mounted at fore side of a channel formed in the surface of a main winding drum. Edges of the hooks are arranged side by side in a rearward looking pattern in the direction of rotation of the main winding drum. Therefore, when the cutter blade of the web separator plunges into the channel and the web is torn in channel, the tail edge of the separated web is caught by the hook and held against the surface of the drum.
