A cutter head for a combined wood edger and chipper. The cutter head has coaxially mounted inner and outer shafts, rotatable at different speeds. A saw is mounted at the end of the inner shaft, and chipper blades are mounted around the outer shaft. It is therefore possible to simultaneously turn the uneven portion on the side of a log or cant into wood chips, and leave a finished surface behind. The blades and saw can both be operated at their optimum speed since both shafts are rotatable at different speeds. An apparatus having any number of such cutter heads mounted horizontally and vertically is also provided.
