The apparatus (10) comprises input means for inputting data relating to a profile of the aperture and a data processing arrangement for receiving said data and processing said data to provide instructions for operating a cutting assembly (18) to cut the aperture into the article. The apparatus (10) also includes a cutting assembly (18) operable to move in accordance with instructions to cut the article.
