ABSTRACT CUTTING APPARATUS FOR PROCESSING CONTINUOUSLY TRAVELING WEBS A cutting apparatus for processing continuously traveling webs comprises a cutter cylinder and a grooved cylinder, which are respectively provided with cutter blades and grooves, which cooperate in the plane of the web and are provided on cutter bars (29, 30) and grooved bars (18, 19), respectively, which are rotatably mounted in end discs (14, 20) of the cylinders, and are moved by planetary gear trains (11a, 12, 13, 15a, 15) through cutting positions while said bars are parallel to themselves and to their common, aligned center line. Said planetary gear trains serve to move said bars parallel to each other and comprise each a stationary sun gear (11a) and idler gears (12, 13), which are rotatably mounted in the end discs (14, 20) and mesh with said sun gear (11a) and with bar gears (15a, 15) non-rotatably connected to respective ones of said cutter bars (29, 30) and said grooved bars (18, 19). A grooved bar or a cutter bar for making parallel and angled cuts, by which web sections (37) are cut out from the web, is provided with pivoted or extensible needles (469 37) for piercing the cut-out web sections (37). The holders (44, 45) for said needles are provided each with a cam follower slider or a cam follower roller (51, 52). During the movement of the needle through the cutting region said cam follower is moving on the cam face of a cam member (56), which is secured to the shaft (3) of the grooved cylinder or cutter cylinder.
