Abstract of the Disclosure A shear-type cutting device comprises an elastic disc having a cutting edge which is pressed axially into engagement with the cutting edge of an opposing disc. The elastic disc is rotatably mounted on one end of a bearing sleeve which is axially movable on a shaft. The other end of the sleeve carries a lever arm upon which a pressure element operates to apply an axially directed force, this force being balanced by the reaction force between the two cutting discs. The axial position of the cutting disc is un- affected by variations in this reaction force (or may occur when the opposing disc is struck) since such variations produce an unbalanced moment which causes the sleeve to bind to the shaft.
