ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A cutting insert has a body with a periphery provided with a cutting edge having a plurality of cutting edge portions, and with a plurality of arcuate chip guiding steps which limit a plurality of chip surfaces, wherein the chip guiding steps extend directly to the periphery of the body, and the chip surfaces are formed as through-going planes which extend from the chip guiding steps to the cutting edge portions.
