TITLE OF THE INVENTION CUTTING INSERT ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A polygonal cutting insert having two land areas behind its cutting edge is described. The secondary land is located below the cutting edge and has a descending wall which joins a sloping floor extending toward the center of the insert. The sloping floor descends, both as it extends toward the center of the insert, and as it extends away from the nearest corner parallel to the side of the polygonal insert.
