Abstract The present invention relates to a cutting insert (10) and a method for chip removing machining, preferably for milling. The insert has a rake face (16A) and a clearance face (13). A cutting edge (15) is arranged at the line of intersection of said faces. The rake face comprises at least two adjacent, elongated ridges (14,17) which extend along at least a part of the cutting edge. A first ridge (14) connects to the cutting edge. A second (17) of said ridges is arranged to become active after wear of the first ridge. The method includes the step of wearing the first ridge to a substantial degree before activating the second ridge. (Fig. 1)
