A cutting tool assembly (1) clamping mechanism (5) which secures a cutting insert (3) for performing cutoff, grooving, slotting, and profiling operations. The clamping mechanism (5) has resilient upper and lower clamping jaws (7, 9) for receiving and securing the insert (3). The cutting insert (3) has front and top faces (13, 15) that define a cutting edge (21) at an intersection thereof, a back face (25), and adjacent proximal and distal bottom faces (27, 29) contiguous with said front and back faces (13, 25) that define an angular lower seating portion (30). The lower clamping jaw (9) of the clamping mechanism (5) includes proximal and distal pocket surfaces (59, 67) forming an angularly recessed jaw portion that is complementary in shape to the angular seating portion (30) of the insert (3). The distal pocket surface (67) of the lower clamping jaw (9) is oriented with the proximal pocket surface (59) to form a stop for limiting the extent that the insert (3) may be received between the clamping jaws (7, 9). This orientation further redirects a component of the cutting force (F) on the insert (3) toward the top face (15) thereof in order to wedgingly engage the top face (15) of the insert (3) against the top pocket surface (45) of the upper clamping jaws (9), thereby enhancing the clamping force that the jaws (7, 9) apply to the insert (3).
L'invention concerne un ensemble outil de coupe (1) ayant un mécanisme de serrage (5) qui immobilise un outil rapporté coupant (3), utilisé pour tronçonner, rainurer, mortaiser ou profiler. Le mécanisme de serrage (5) comporte une mâchoire de serrage supérieure (7) et une mâchoire de serrage inférieure (9) destinées à recevoir et à immobiliser l'outil rapporté (3). L'outil rapporté coupant (3) comporte une face avant (13) et une face de dessus (15) qui définissent un bord coupant (21) à une intersection, une face arrière (25), une face proximale (27) et une face distale (29) adjacentes inférieures qui sont contiguës auxdites faces avant et arrière (13, 25) et qui délimitent une partie d'appui inférieure angulaire (30). La mâchoire de serrage inférieure (9) du mécanisme de serrage (5) est composée d'une face en poche proximale (59) et d'une face en poche distale (67), constituant une partie de mâchoire angulairement en retrait dont la forme est complémentaire de la partie d'appui angulaire (30) de l'outil rapporté (3). La face en poche distale (67) de la mâchoire de serrage inférieure (9) est orientée avec la face en poche proximale (59) de manière à constituer une butée destinée à limiter l'engagement de l'outil rapporté (3) entre les mâchoires de serrage (7, 9). Cette orientation redirige également une composante de la force de coupe (F) exercée sur l'outil rapporté (3) vers la face de dessus (15), afin d'engager celle-ci en coin contre la face en poche supérieure (45) de la mâchoire de serrage supérieure (9), accroissant ainsi la force de serrage que les mâchoires (7, 9) appliquent sur l'outil rapporté (3).
