ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A cyanide-free electrolyte for the electrodeposition of silver contains, in aqueous solution, a silver compound, a thio- sulphate, and at least one additive selected from the group con- sisting of organic nitrogen compounds having at least two nitrogen atoms per molecule and a molecular weight of 300 or more, and sulphur and selenium compounds containing sulphur or selenium in the -1 or -2 oxidation state. The silver compound can be silver sulphate or carbonate, the thiosulphate can be sodium thiosulphate and the additive can be polyethylene imine or poly- propylene imine.
