ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Pharmacologically active cyanoguanidines are disclosed having the following structural formula Image wherein R1 is hydrogen or lower alkyl; and R2 is a grouping of the structure Het - (CH2)mZ(CH2)n - wherein Het is a nitrogen containing 5 or 6 membered heterocyclic ring selected from imidazole, pyridine, thiazole, and isothiazole, which ring may optionally be substituted by lower alkyl, trifluoromethyl, hydroxyl, halogen or amino; Z is sulphur, oxygen, NH or a methylene group; and m and n are inte- gers from 0 to 4 such that their sum is from 2 to 4. These compounds have been found to have physiological activity in the animal body as antihistamines to certain actions of histamines which are not blocked by "antihistamines" such as mepyramine.
