Cyclic organosiloxanes which contain at least one Si-bonded organic radical and have at least one donor/acceptor .pi.-electron system. The cyclic organosiloxanes of this invention can be used for all purposes for which compounds having nonlinear optical properties or having nonlinear optical properties in combination with liquid-crystalline properties have been or could have been employed heretofore. Thus, for example, they can be used in microelectronics, data transfer or communications technology, in computer technology, in displays, optical switches, optical information stores and integrated circuits, and for medical applications.
