ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This application is directed to a process for the preparation of a hydroquinone dialkyl ether of the formula Image wherein each R represents a primary or secondary C1-4 alkyl radical in which a diketal of the formula II' Image II' wherein R is as defined above, is acidified and heated to a temperature of from 60 to 120°C. These compounds are useful intermediates in the preparation of dyestuffs.
