A cyclone-type dust collecting apparatus for a vacuum cleaner has a dual contaminant separator comprised of an inner cylinder within an outer cylinder. A first contaminant discharge path on the lower side of the inner cylinder allows contaminants to pass into a space between the inner cylinder and the outer cylinder. A contaminant collecting receptacle is also divided into a first contaminant collecting space and a second contaminant collecting space by a corresponding second outer cylinder corresponding to the first outer cylinder and a second inner cylinder corresponding to the first inner cylinder. The collecting receptacle has a contaminant discharge path formed on the lower side of the second inner cylinder. A grill mounted in the cyclone body prevents contaminants from being drawn through the air discharge portion.
