Disclosed is a cycloolefin copolymer which is obtained from (A) a straight-chain or branched .alpha.-olefin of 2 to 20 carbon atoms, (B) a specific cycloolefin and (C) an aromatic vinyl compound and has an intrinsic viscosity [~] of 0.1 to 10 dl/g, wherein the content of constituent units derived from the cycloolefin (B) and the content of constituent units derived from the aromatic vinyl compound (C) satisfy a specific relation. The cycloolefin copolymer has high heat resistance, low moisture absorption and small birefringence.

La présente invention a trait à un copolymère de cyclooléfine obtenu à partir A) d'une alpha-oléfine de 2 à 20 atomes de carbone à chaîne droite ou ramifiée, B) une cyclooléfine spécifique et C) un composé vinylique aromatique et présentant une viscosité intrinsèque [~] de 0,1 à 10 dl/g, dans lequel la teneur en constituants dérivés de la cyclooléfine B) et la teneur en constituants dérivés du composé vinylique aromatique C) correspond à une relation particulière. Le copolymère de cyclooléfine est très résistant à la chaleur, il absorbe peu d'humidité et sa biréfringence est faible.
