119 ABSTRACT The copolymer pellets of the invention are made from a cycloolefin random copolymer which is formed from ethylene and a cycloolefin and has a softening temperature of not lower than 70 °C. The number of cyclohexane-insoluble fine particles contained in 30 mg of the pellets is not more than 60,000. The pellets can be prepared by using various processes singly or in combination, namely, a process wherein a copolymer powder is preheated to a temperature of not lower than 50 °C and fed to an extruder, a process wherein the temperature of the melt starting position of the extruder is set to be the highest and set to be a temperature higher than Tg of the copolymer by not lower than 90 °C, a process wherein the copolymer is melt- extruded by a twin-screw extruder whose screws rotate in the same direction, a process wherein the copolymer extruded in the molten state is filtered at a differential pressure of not more than 90 kg/cm2, and a process wherein the pellets are dried in such a manner that the amount of a fine powder produced from the pellets in the drying stage is not more than 100 ppm.
