A stable rapidly dissolving lyophilized and hydrated composition of cyclophosphamide and sodium bicarbonate is provided which contains an amount of water which is at least equimolar to the combined amount of cyclophosphamide and sodium bicarbonate in the composition and the weight ratio of cyclophosphamide to sodium bicarbonate is about 1:0.5 to 1:1.5; the composition is preferably prepared from a solution containing at least 1% (W/V) weight sodium bicarbonate.
