A cyclopropane derivative represented by formula (I): (I) Image wherein B represents a purine derivative residue, is prepared by replacing the hydroxyl group of (3-oxa-2- oxobicyclo[3.1.0]hexan-1-yl)methanol with a leaving group followed by reaction with a purine derivative. The compounds of formula (I) are useful in the preparation of antiviral agents.
