An internal combustion engine block (10) having a circumferential channel (34) formed between the cylinder block (10) and a cylinder liner (14) surrounding and adjacent to the high temperature combustion chamber region (12) of the engine, to which coolant flow is provided to uniformly and effectively cool this critical area of the liner (14). The flow characteristics of the top liner cooling channel (34) provide a high velocity coolant stream having an aspect ratio of width relative to height within a predetermined range and an equivalent diameter within a predetermined range to assure uniform temperature on both side of the cylinder liner (14) and about the entire circumference of the liner (14).

Bloc-moteur pour moteur à combustion interne, doté d'un canal périphérique formé entre le bloc-cylindres et une chemise de cylindre, passant autour et près de la partie du moteur à haute température qu'est la chambre d'explosion, vers laquelle est acheminé un flux de liquide de refroidissement afin de refroidir de manière uniforme et efficace cette zone critique de la chemise de cylindre. L'écoulement du canal de refroidissement près de la partie supérieure de la chemise produit un courant de liquide de refroidissement à grande vitesse dont le coefficient d'aspect entre la largeur et la hauteur ainsi que le diamètre équivalent s'inscrivent dans une fourchette préétablie pour assurer une température uniforme des deux côtés de la chemise de cylindre et sur toute la circonférence de ladite chemise.
