Disclosed is a cylindrical container made of carbon whose inner surface is to be in contact with a silicon melt. The cylindrical container is suppressed in permeation of the silicon melt and formation of SiC, and hardly changes in the shape even when cubical expansion ascribable to silicon is caused. Also disclosed is a method for producing silicon using such a container. Specifically disclosed is a cylindrical container made of carbon whose inner surface is to be in contact with a silicon melt which is characterized by being composed of a carbon material having a bulk specific gravity of not less than 1.8. Such a carbon material may preferably have a thermal expansion coefficient from 3.5 × 10-6/~C to 6.0 × 10-6/~C at 350-450~C.
Il est exposé un récipient cylindrique fait de carbone dont la surface interne doit être en contact avec une masse fondue de silicium. Le récipient cylindrique ne permet pas la perméation de la masse fondue de silicium et la formation de SiC et varie à peine en termes de forme même lorsqu'une dilatation cubique attribuable au silicium est provoquée. Il est également exposé un procédé servant à produire du silicium utilisant un tel récipient. Il est précisément exposé un récipient cylindrique fait de carbone dont la surface interne doit être en contact avec une masse fondue de silicium lequel est caractérisé en ce qu'il est composé d'un matériau en carbone ayant une densité apparente qui n'est pas inférieure à 1,8. Un tel matériau en carbone peut de préférence avoir un coefficient de dilatation thermique allant de 3,5 × 10?-6¿/·C à 6,0 × 10?-6¿/·C à 350-450·C.
