ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A generally cylindrical electromechanical transducer of the magnetostrictive type provides ultrasonic vibrations which are used for ultrasonic cleaning of elongated workpieces such as wire strip etc., which are made to pass through the cylindrical transducer axially. An energizing coil for the transducer is accommodated in grooves on the periphery of a hollow cylindrical member, the turns of the energizing coil being so wound that no single turn of the energizing coil em- braces the cross section of the hollow cylindrical member, whereby no resultant induced short circuit current can flow in the workpiece where it is electrically conductive. -1-
