An ultrasound receiver (20) includes a hollow cylinder (22) formed primarily from flexible piezoelectric film, the hollow cylinder (22) having an outer surface (24) an inner surface (26), a central axis (28) and a height measured parallel to the central axis (28). A sensing electrode is formed from conductive material applied to the surface, while a grounded electrode (32) is formed from conductive material applied to the outer surface (24). The hollow cylinder (2) is supported by a support structure configured to allow propagation of vibration waves circumferentially around a major part of the hollow cylinder (22). The sensing electrode is formed as a strip extending in an extensional direction substantially parallel to the central axis (28) along a major part of the height, the strip subtending at the central axis (28) at an angle of not more than 90 degrees.

Un récepteur (20) à ultrasons comprend un cylindre creux (22) formé essentiellement d'une couche mince piézo-électrique souple, le cylindre creux (22) présentant une surface extérieure (24), une surface intérieure (26), un axe central (28) et une hauteur mesurée parallèle à l'axe central (28). Une électrode de détection est composée d'un matériau conducteur appliqué à la surface, tandis qu'une électrode (32) mise à la masse est composée d'un matériau conducteur appliqué sur la surface extérieure (24). Le cylindre creux (2) est porté par une structure de support configurée pour permettre la propagation d'ondes de vibration de manière circonférentielle autour d'une partie principale du cylindre creux (22).
