Urinary Cyr61 protein levels are up regulated in patients that have cancers of epithelial origin, i.e. breast cancer and ovarian cancer. Accordingly, the present invention is directed to methods for prognostic evaluation, and diagnosis of cancers of epithelial origin. Further, the amount of Cyr61 protein detected in a urine sample correlates with disease status such that Cyr61 levels can be used to predict the presence of, as well as the metastatic potential of cancer. Thus, measuring the level of Cyr61 in urine provides a quick, easy, and safe screen that can be used to both diagnose and prognose cancer in a patient.
L'invention concerne la régulation à la hausse des taux urinaires de la protéine Cyr61 chez des patients atteints de cancers d'origine épithéliale, c.-à-d. cancers du sein et de l'ovaire. L'invention concerne des procédés pour l'évaluation pronostique et le diagnostic de cancers d'origine épithéliale. De plus, la quantité de protéine Cyr61 détectée dans un échantillon d'urine est corrélée avec l'état pathologique, de sorte que les taux de Cyr61 peuvent servir à prédire la présence d'un cancer ainsi que le potentiel métastatique de celui-ci. La mesure du taux urinaire de Cyr61 constitue un test rapide, facile et sûr permettant de diagnostiquer et de pronostiquer un cancer chez un patient.
