ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A cytochemical agent and method for the de- tection and identification of estrogen or progesterone receptor cells in carcinomas of the breast is describ- ed, involving an estrogen-protein-fluorochrome conj- gate or a progesterone-protein-fluorochrome agent which is applied to an excised unfixed frozen tissue section, which is then examined for the appearange of fluores- cent dye staining of the cells therein, for evaluation of potential endocrine or hormone therapy of the pat- ient. Additional cytochemical agents and methods for the detection of other types of hormone receptor cells in various kinds of cancerous tissue are also dis- closed, using sex hormones and endochrine steroid com- ponents.
