Abstract A d.c. telegraph transmitter comprises a transmitter keying circuit (ST) and a current regulating circuit, op- erating on the continuous regulator principle, which serves to maintain the line current constant, so that the power loss which is converted into heat is small. The current regulating circuit (IK) receives power from a telegraph battery (TB) or other voltage source via a switching stage ( SU, sl)which connects only one tapping of the telegraph battery to the in- put (E) of the current regulating circuit. The voltage pres- ent at the input (E) of the current regulating circuit (IK) is automatically increased or reduced in stepped fashion in dependence upon the transmitting voltage which occurs on the line (L) (Fig.1).
