ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A D-homo-20-keto-pregnane of the general formula I Image (I) or a physiologically tolerable acid addition salt thereof, which has a central-depressive, anaesthetic-narcotic action is produced, for example, when R1 represents a fluorine, chlorine or bromine atom or an alkyl, alkoxy or azido group and R6 represents a methyl group, by halogenating with a fluorinating, chlorinating or brom- inating agent, by alkylating with a lithium-dialkyl-copper, or alkoxylating in an acid solution with an alkanol, or treating in a solvent miscible with water with an alkali metal azide, an oxido-D-homo-pregnane of the general formula IIa Image (IIa) In the above formulae, R1 represents a hydrogen, fluroine, chlorine or bromine atom or an alkyl, alkoxy or aziao group; R2 represents an oxygen atom or a Image or Image grouping in which R7 represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group containing up to 5 carbon atoms or an acyl group containing up to 5 carbon atoms; R3 repre- sents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; R4 represents an oxygen atom, two hydrogen atoms or a Image or Image grouping; R5 represents a hydrogen atom or a hydroxyl, alkoxy, azido, mercapto, thioacetoxy, thiopropionyloxy, thiocyano, cyano, dialkylamino or morpholino group; R6 represents a methyl or ethyl group, and the hydrogen atom in the 5-position is in the .alpha.- or .beta.-position.
