An apparatus connectable between the secondary winding tower of a Direct Ignition Coil output and the high voltage lead to the spark plug and/or between the spark plug and the high voltage lead to provide a visual indication of an electric arc generated by current passing through the apparatus which has a predetermined air gap encased in a material which is visibly clear, and having high dielectric characteristics. An apparatus connectable by means of male and female receptacle located at either end of the housing respectively, and forming a means of connection in series with the component or circuit to be tested, these receptacles shall also form an electrode function in series with the air gap encased in the housing, this housing preferably having a cavity defining a spark chamber, wherein the spark chamber is not vented to the atmosphere.
