ABSTRACT Methods for making analogs of D-Trp8 somatostatin are described which inhibit the secretion of growth hormone by the pituitary gland and inhibit the release of glucagon and insulin by the pancreas. The peptide may have the struc- ture Image , or Image , where R1 is hydrogen or an acyl group derived from an amino acid, a dipeptide, a tripeptide, a pentapeptide, or from an aliphatic, aromatic or cyclic organic acid having from 1 to 10 carbon atoms, and R2 is either Ala, Asn or deleted. Pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts of these peptides may also be formed and administered.
