ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Disclosed herein is the arrangement of a damper winding on the magnetic pole of a salient pole type synchronous machine. Damper winding conductors are arranged on the top region of the magnetic pole thereof asymmetrically with respect to the center of the magnetic pole, so that the increase of field current is prevented by suppressing the magnetic satura- tion during the operation under load, and the thermal and mechanical burdens of the damper winding caused by leakage flux is minimized.
