A damping system (10) having a lightweight, low-cost, thin-walled cartridge body (12) sealed on both ends by mechanically deforming the cartridge body wall into sealing elements (22, 24) that seal the ends of the cartridge body. Preferably, the cartridge body wall is roll crimped to compress the sealing elements and thereby create a seal between the wall and the sealing elements. The cartridge body is preferably also provided with a retaining ring (60) having an internally formed ridge (70) that engages the mechanically deformed portion of the cartridge body wall. The retaining ring is thereby axially fixed with respect to the cartridge body. Because the retaining ring is positioned about the cartridge body, the retaining ring forms a shoulder with respect thereto. The shoulder thereby formed may be inserted within the recess of a bicycle suspension fork strut to fix the damping cartridge therein against movement.
L'invention concerne un système amortissant (10) ayant un corps (12) de cartouche léger, peu onéreux, à fine paroi, scellé aux deux extrémités par déformation mécanique de la paroi du corps en éléments de scellement (22, 24) qui scellent lesdites extrémités. De préférence, la paroi du corps est sertie au tambour de manière à comprimer les éléments de scellement et à établir un scellement entre la paroi et les éléments de scellement. De préférence, le corps comporte une bague de retenue (60) ayant une crête interne (70) qui pénètre dans la partie mécaniquement déformée de la paroi du corps. En conséquence, ladite bague est fixée axialement par rapport au corps. Etant placée autour du corps, la bague forme un épaulement sur ce corps. L'épaulement ainsi formé peut être inséré dans la cavité d'une jambe de fourche de suspension de bicyclette, ce qui permet d'y immobiliser la cartouche amortissante.
