An asymmetric damping mechanism (100) for use in a belt tensioner. The damping mechanism comprises two parts (210, 220) having substantially similar arcuate shapes for engaging a tensioner. The first part (210) is in contact with the second part (220) at a pivotable point of contact (216). The point of contact (216) position is determined according to the desired asymmetric damping factor. The first part (210) is also in contact with a spring. The second part (220) is in contact with a tensioner arm. The damping mechanism also comprises two damping shoes, each having a damping band (213, 215). The damping band is joined to the damping shoe by a plurality of vertical grooves on the damping shoe cooperating with a plurality of grooves on the damping band. The damping mechanism has an asymmetric damping factor in the range of approximately 1.5 to 5.

L'invention porte sur un mécanisme d'amortissement asymétrique (100) à utiliser dans un tendeur de courroie. Ce mécanisme d'amortissement comprend deux parties (210, 220) présentant des formées arquées sensiblement identiques afin de venir en prise avec un tendeur. La première partie (210) est en contact avec la seconde partie (220) au niveau d'un point de contact rotatif (216). La position du point de contact (216) est déterminée en fonction du facteur d'amortissement asymétrique désiré. La première partie (210) est également en contact avec un ressort. La seconde partie (220) est en contact avec un bras de tendeur. Le mécanisme d'amortissement comprend aussi des bras d'amortissement, chacun possédant une bande d'amortissement (213, 215). La bande d'amortissement est reliée à la chaussure d'amortissement au moyen de plusieurs rainures verticales sur la chaussure d'amortissement coopérant avec plusieurs rainures sur la bande d'amortissement. Ce mécanisme d'amortissement possède un facteur d'amortissement asymétrique approximativement de l'ordre de 1,5 à 5.
