ABSTRACT DATA CODE AND APPARATUS FOR READING SAID DATA CODE The bar code system is widely used but suffers from the disadvantages in that the code must be printed very accurately and the sensors required to read the code are very complex. Furthermore, the bar code system does not enable users to directly extract the coded information. The present invention is directed towards a data code comprising at least one unit, each unit being divided into at least two regions having similar dimensions, whereby each unit has a unique arrangement of shaded regions to represent a particular characteristic whereby said data code may represent any one of decimal, hexidecimal or binary notation. This code does not require such accuracy of printing, enables a user to read the code directly and the sensor used for reading the code is relatively simple.
