ABSTRACT A data communication apparatus is provided which comprises reading means for reading a plurality of function codes located on a card, each of the function codes being located at a different position on the card, memory means for the storage of data at one or more groups of addresses, each of the groups of addresses comprising one or more addresses, each of the plurality of addresses corresponding to one of the function codes, and data display means for displaying data stored at the one or more groups of addresses. The data communication apparatus is characterised in that the relative physical relation of the readingmeans and the card is adapted to be altered in a direction along one face of thecard so as to thereby enable the reading means to separately read each of the plurality of function codes.
