A data compression system in which a dictionary stores strings of characters and an encoder matches the longest of the stored strings with a current string of a data stream input to the encoder. The index of the longest matched stored string is output by the encoder and the dictionary is updated by a new string consisting of the previous match concatenated with the first two characters only of the present match. If a present match has only one or two characters, it is added without reduction.
L'invention est un système de compression de données dans lequel des chaînes de caractères sont versées dans un dictionnaire et un codeur fait correspondre la plus longue de ces chaînes avec une chaîne faisant partie d'un train de données reçu par lui à ce moment. L'indice de la chaîne stockée la plus longue est émis par le codeur et le dictionnaire est mis à jour à l'aide d'une nouvelle chaîne constituée par la chaîne correspondante précédente enchaînée avec les deux premiers caractères seulement de la chaîne correspondante du moment. Si la chaîne correspondante du moment ne compte qu'un ou deux caractères, elle est ajoutée sans réduction.
