A lossless data compression system comprises a content addressable memory dictionary (30), a coder (38), and a run length encoding means (39) connected to receive the output of the coder (38), the encoding means (39) being arranged to count the number of times a match consecutively occurs at a predetermined dictionary location, i.e. the number of times the same search tuple is loaded into the same address (50) of the dictionary. Compression is improved.

L'invention concerne un système de compression de données sans perte, comprenant un dictionnaire de mémoire (30) à contenu adressable, un codeur (38), et des moyens de codage (39) en longueur d'exécution connectés de façon à recevoir la sortie du codeur (38). Ces moyens de codage (39) sont agencés de façon à compter le nombre de fois où un correspondance s'établit consécutivement au niveau d'un emplacement prédéterminé du dictionnaire, c'est-à-dire, le nombre de fois où le même nuplet de recherche est chargé dans la même adresse. (50) dudit dictionnaire. La compression est ainsi améliorée.
