The use of an HTML form for data entry can entail significant disadvantages. The present invention provides a method of entering information into a data record which utilises a virtual environment. A user can direct an avatar in this environment and at least one location in the virtual environment is associated with a field of said record and with one or more selectable information options for inclusion in said field. The user is provided with representations of the selectable information options distributed around the location and the position of the avatar in the virtual environment is monitored. In the event that the avatar moves into a predefined proximity with one of the representations of the selectable options, the selection of that one of the selectable options is detected and that selected one option is then stored in the associated field of the data record.
L'invention concerne le système d'information largement répandu, appelé World Wide Web (WWW ou Web), qui est en grande partie constitué de documents créés en langage hypertexte (HTML). Une technique d'entrée de données, largement répandue en ce qui concerne des applications Web, consiste à utiliser un format HTML. L'usage répandu de tels formats, qui exploite la bonne connaissance, par l'utilisateur, du concept de leur prédécesseur, à savoir le format imprimé, peut comporter toutefois un certain nombre d'inconvénients. Cependant, selon l'invention, un procédé d'entrée d'informations dans une fiche de données exploite un environnement virtuel. L'utilisateur peut diriger un avatar dans cet environnement et au moins un emplacement dans l'environnement virtuel est associé à un champ de ladite fiche de données et à au moins une option au choix pour inclusion dans ledit champ. L'utilisateur dispose de représentations des options d'informations au choix distribuées autour de l'emplacement et la position de l'avatar dans l'environnement virtuel est surveillée. Dans le cas où l'avatar entre dans une proximité prédéfinie avec l'une des représentations des options au choix, la sélection de l'option choisie est détectée, laquelle est alors stockée dans le champ associé de la fiche de données.
