A television signal is formatted for transmission by arranging a plurality of encoded data symbols, representing a plurality of source data bytes, into successive data frames each comprising 313 data segments. One of the data segments of each frame comprises a frame sync segment of which the last (12) symbols comprise a copy of the last (12) encoded data symbols the preceding data segment. The remaining segments of each frame comprise (12) interleaved subsegments A-L, each subsegment comprising a plurality of encoded data symbols representing a contiguous group of sources data bytes, with the first symbol of each of the first (4) subsegments A-D comprising a predetermined segment sync symbol. The received signal is decoded by independently processing the symbols of each respective subsegment to derive estimations of the source data bytes.

On réalise le formatage d'un signal de télévision devant faire l'objet d'une transmission, en disposant plusieurs symboles de données codés, représentant plusieurs octets de données sources, dans des trames de données successives, comprenant chacune 313 segments de données. L'un de ces segments de données, pour chaque trame, comprend un segment de synchronisation de trame, dont les 12 derniers symboles contiennent une copie des 12 derniers symboles de données codés du segment de données précédent. Les segments restants de chaque trame contiennent 12 sous-segments entrelacés (A-L), chacun de ces sous-segments comprenant plusieurs symboles de données codés qui représentent un groupe contigu d'octets de données sources, dans lequel le premier symbole de chacun des quatre premiers sous-segments (A-D) comprend un symbole de synchronisation de segments prédéterminé. On procède au décodage du signal reçu en traitant indépendamment les symboles de chaque sous-segment respectif, afin de dériver des estimations des octets de données sources.
