A method for providing cryptographic functions to data packets at the PPP layer of a net-work stack is presented. The method includes the steps of intercepting PPP datagrams having at least one encapsulated IP packet en route along the protocol stack; decapsulating the PPP datagrams to retrieve the encapsulated IP packet, determining whether to process the IP packet by modifying the IP packet to provide the cryptographic functions, and encapsulating the IP packet for transmission to a next layer of the network stack.

Il s'agit d'un procédé permettant de conférer des fonctions cryptographiques aux paquets de données de la couche PPP d'une pile de réseau. La procédé comprend les étapes permettant l'interception des datagrammes PPP comportant au moins un paquet IP encapsulé en transit dans la pile de protocoles; la décapsulation des datagrammes PPP pour récupérer le paquet IP encapsulé; la détermination de la nécessité de traiter le paquet de données IP en le modifiant de sorte à lui conférer des fonctions cryptographiques ainsi que l'encapsulation du paquet IP en vue de sa transmission vers la prochaine couche de la pile de réseau.
