A data management system is disclosed which finds particular application in supporting the provision of products or services by one or more enterprises. The data management system is built in accordance with an information architecture which organizes the business processes of the enterprise into re-usable classes that contain both business rules and the data on which they depend. The architecture makes the existence of a product fulfilment instance (1720) dependent on the existence of a corresponding product description in an enterprise capability store (110) and/or a product selection store (1715). This provides a structure of dependency which can both prevent an organisation from failing to deliver correct goods and from failing to record what goods were delivered.
