A data processing system includes a memory controller for accessing a dynamic memory having a plurality of SIMMs that differ in size and speed of operation. The memory controller is operable in response to a request to access a given SIMM to read a SIMM definition register and dynamically produce memory access signals in accordance with the timing requirements of the particular SIMM being accessed. Such signals are set each time a SIMM is accessed. The signals provide different clock periods of RAS precharge time, RAS to CAS time, and CAS pulse width.

Un système de traitement de données comprend un contrôleur de mémoire donnant accès à une mémoire dynamique dotée d'un certain nombre de modules SIMM qui diffèrent par la taille et la vitesse de fonctionnement. Le contrôleur permet de répondre à une demande d'accès à un module SIMM donné afin de lire un registre de définitions SIMM et de produire dynamiquement des signaux d'accès mémoire conformément aux exigences de synchronisation du module SIMM visé. Ces signaux sont remis à un lors de chaque accès à un module SIMM. Ils offrent différentes périodes d'horloge correspondant au temps de précharge RAS, au temps de RAS à CAS et à la durée d'impulsion CAS.
