ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention concerns a data processing method for a digital multiplex data exchange system, said data being in the form of synchronous and/or asynchronous information made up of digital messages in a given format, the system including one processing unit comprising one main memory, means for displaying on a screen and editing means. The method consists of : - recording in the main memory of the processing means a table in which any item of data, irrespective of its origin, is described arborescently in the form of a field of binary elements (bits) which is the son of a father or parent binary element field, the father itself being the son of another father field if said father field is not the highest placed in the hierarchy of the tree, - editing the data table by the editing means.
