Abstract of the Disclosure An apparatus for optimizng counting conditions in radioactive test samples disposed in a liquid scintillator includes a light transducer and means for positioning each sample adjacent the transducer. A plurality of pulse height analyzers analyze electrical pulses emanating from the trans- ducer. A selected quench indicating parameter is measured for each sample, and the measured value of that parameter is used to automatically adjust discriminators within the pulse height analyzers b one of a plurality of preselected amounts.
