A recordable data recording medium for recording modulated inherent data and data decryptable by a decryption key generated therefrom, and an optical disc drive which is not provided with such a function as discriminating a recordable data recording medium from a reproduction-only data recording medium by differentiating the modulation system for the inherent data from that for the reproduction-only data recording medium. Installation of a data recording medium discriminating function is prompted by disabling reproduction of the recordable data recording medium and copyright protective function is ensured.
