Methods of providing added security for communications between a server (36) and a particular client modem (70) on a shared communication media (50). The methods provide for passing communications containing scrambled keys to be used to form scrambling seeds for scrambling subsequent messages. In a preferred embodiment, both the server (36) and the client modem (70) generate and pass keys to be used for the communications between the server (36) and that client modem (70) to achieve a dynamic dual key scrambling system. In the preferred embodiment, the MAC or medium access control address for each client modem is used as a seed for encryption. Additionally, a seed based on the most recent CRC code from the last received data packet is used.
L'invention concerne des procédés permettant de renforcer la sécurité des communications entre un serveur (36) et un modem client (70) particulier sur un moyen de communication partagé (50). Les procédés décrits dans cette invention permettent d'acheminer des communications contenant des clés codées devant être utilisées de manière à former des noyaux codés pour l'embrouillage des messages ultérieurs. Dans un mode de réalisation idéal, le serveur (36) et le modem client (70) produisent et acheminent des clés devant être utilisées pour les communications entre le serveur (36) et ledit modem client (70), de manière à obtenir un système d'embrouillage de clés double et dynamique.
