DATA STORAGE APPARATUS FOR PORTABLE LABEL PRINTER ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A data storage device for use with a portable label printer is comprised of a battery-oper- ated hand-held unit having a memory for storing therein the data that is to be imprinted on labels. Only func- tion keys are provided, the data entry keys being de- liberately omitted to simplify the device. The func- tion keys enable an operator to selectively access and retrieve the stored data and to output that data to a portable label printer. The storage device enables use of simpler label printers which need not include a storage memory or a keyboard facility for inputting data manually, Moreover, being relatively inexpensive, the data storage device may be widely distributed throughout the various departments of a large store and each department could store in the device information which is specific to that department. And the device may be connected to any label printer for producing labels for the items of merchandise unique to that department.
