- 1 - Abstract: The present invention relates to a data transmission system. The system is comprised of a unit for assembling data bytes into a plurality of arbitrarily- sized blocks, a unit for appending to each block a trailer indicating the size and sequence number of each block and a unit which is responsive to the trailer for checking the size and sequence number of the blocks. The invention also includes a method of transmitting data. The method comprises the steps of assembling the data into arbitrarily-sized blocks of data, appending to each block data a trailer specifying the length and sequence number of each block of data, and thereafter checking both the length and sequence number to verify the integrity of the block of data.
