The system comprises a portable object (1) fitted with a liquid crystal display (6) and means (8, 9) for modulating the reflectance of a particular field (16) of the display depending upon numeric data to be transmitted. The object may be temporarily received for this transmission in a reader (2) comprising means (20) for processing these data. According to the invention, the reader is fitted with optical means (15, 17) sensitive to the reflectance of the field (16) of the display (6) to provide a signal carrying an item of numeric data to be transmitted to the processing means (20). Application to the collection of results concerning games run by the media.
