ABSTRACT DATA TRANSMISSION USING A TRANSPARENT TONE-IN BAND SYSTEM A receiver is described for a communication system which employs a transmitter which divides the frequency spectrum into two portions to give a notch for reference frequencies. The receiver phase and frequency locks the two portions as it recombines them. A feedforward arrangement for overcoming temporary errors in the phase locking is also described, together with techniques for providing carrier and bit synchronisation for transmitter and receiver modems connected to the system and a technique for providing coherent demodulation of pilot tone SSB using feedforward signal regeneration.
