Data receiving apparatus receives a spread spectrum signal prepared by modulating data with a carrier wave to produce a data modulated signal, and multiplying the data modulated signal with a spreading signal that has a bandwidth greater than that of the data modulated signal. The receiving apparatus has three bandpass filters for passing three different band portions of a full band of the spread spectrum signal, and respectively producing a bandpass signal, a detector for detecting an intermediate signal from the bandpass signal and for producing a detection signal, and a reception state evaluation device for detecting the current reception state of the detector and for producing a poor reception signal when said detector is in a poor reception state. The poor reception signal is used for changing the current band to another band. The apparatus has the advantage of not requiring a wide band delay, and can tolerate strong interference components superimposed on the spread spectrum signal.
